Initially, we set off on this “trip” as “Overlanders” with a constraint of 8 years to travel the world with our son. We started by trying to explore the highlights in each country while traveling south from the US. Slowly, we realized that by pre-planning our destinations, we were missing out on so many amazing cultural experiences while driving through these countries purely for the tourism aspect. Covid forced us to slow down and it was a blessing in disguise. A few years in, we learned that if we actually want to “experience” different cultures, we have let go of timelines and our ideas of what we think things are going to be like, and travel when and where the road leads us. We have to say “yes” more often and accept that people genuinely want to share their lives and experiences with us. We found that the best places are found through locals instead of outdated guide books or blogs. By dropping all time constraints, we have been able to fully live in the moment and this has shown us true freedom. After leaving all possessions behind, every place we travel feels like “home” (as long as we are together). Eventually, as we witnessed an endless stream of “Overlanders” passing us on their journey up or down the Pan American Highway on their way to Alaska or Tierra del Fuego, we realized what we had evolved into… “SLOWverlanders.”
Join us on our journey and see what cool places we’ve discovered and the amazing people we’ve met along the way. If you want to know how to get started or have general questions about life on the road, send us a message. We’d love to hear from you!
